Group B Streptococcus (GBS)

Now into my 38weeks pregnancy. I have been seeing my gynae weekly since last week. This morning, the nurse called me about my Group B Streptococcus (GBS) culture result. The result came out positive! She asked me to go the clinic to get the antibiotics. I was quite upset as this pregnancy seems to have lots of complication until today... first, gestation diabetes, then now, found GBS bacteria. I need to be on IV drip during labor to prevent this little one to get infection by the bacteria. Just pray hard that everything will be fine.....

Looking back...

Oh wow... Time flies... Today, I am into my 31st weeks of pregnancy, which means, 9 weeks till I meet up with my little prince!

Looking back, I have passed through the terrible 1st trimester, enjoying myself for the 2nd trimester, and now, into the 3rd trimester, which again, not as easy as before...

******************************************************
I still remember the moment we get to know that I am pregnant. I was vomiting non-stop for about 2 days, where we blame my brother on not doing a proper cleaning on the utensils, hence, causing me food poisoning. Then, we suspected that I wasn't food poisoning, but maybe pregnant… that lead us to get a pack of pregnancy test kit from Guardian. Tested twice and results were the same: I am pregnant!

During my 1st trimester, I was suffering on non-stop vomiting. Well, I should be glad that I wasn't working, which I may be able to sleep for 14 hours a day... At the same time, I took the opportunity to get rid of my morning caffeine addiction. Just can't imagine those working mummies... How did they go thru that!? In terms of weight gain, I actually loss about 1kg in my 1st trimester, due to the severe vomiting, even though I had been eating quite a lot! Other than that, I had notice the changes in my body: Pimples has been breaking up non stop on my face & my body (I have found pimples on my tummy, back, hand and legs!), enlarged breast where I had to go on emergency shopping for larger bra size, body hair started to fall off (which is good!), where my finger, hand, and legs’ hair are lesser… and the worst gift was, enhanced smelling ability. I can smell many weird things where Lewis and King were not able to detect those. I get irritated at cooking smell, shampoo smell, doggie smell, etc… I can’t cook during the 1st trimester, even when the neighbor was cooking, I had to close all the windows and doors and lock myself in my bedroom (or toilet!). Again, we went on “emergency shopping” to source for non-fragrant shampoo, soap, cleanser, etc… Cheezie (my little Maltese) was brought back to KL home for temporary boarding. After all these hard works was done, I started to crave for food. And the best thing was, I was craving for KL/PJ hawker stall’s food, such as Hok Kien Mee, Pork noodles, Ban mian, chee cheong fun, etc… which must be the KL/PJ style, not the Singaporean style. Hok Kien Mee in Singapore is in white color (no dark sauce), with normal yellow noodle, not the dai lok mee like we had. Pork noodles here are tasteless, they call it bak chor mee, dry style with vinegar, eewww … Ban mian is even worst, tasteless and the soup was gluey with all the flour… Cha quay teow in S’pore is sweetened type, can’t find the penang style… >.<>

Finally, the nightmare of the 1st trimester was over… Everything slowly turned back to normal. In fact, I felt so good in the 2nd trimester and I started to go swimming weekly. We visited several places in Singapore like Zoo, recovery center, science center, etc… until one fine day, while we were visiting the Singapore Recovery center, I was clumsily fall down.. Just fell down like that, without kicking any obstacle on the road. I got my knee injury then, but thanks God that baby was fine (he was kicking non stop after the fall!) 2 weeks for the knee recovery, and then, I got flu! Went to see doctor twice. Since I was pregnant, the doctors gave me the mildest medicine, which took me 3 weeks to recover… we were so worry about the little one inside, that he might get infected. After all, things get smoother. I was still having the craving for KL food, but not as bad as in 1st trimester. We planned our trip back to KL once a month, no longer a weekly task.

Then, by the end of 2nd trimester, we were enjoying ourselves in our 10 days Japan trip. From Kyoto to Hakone to Gotemba to Tokyo, non stop walking, shopping, visiting temples, shines, and eating. I gained 3 kg from the trip itself, but Lewis gained 4!!!! We had no idea how much weight that Lewis’s dad gained, but it was so obvious that his shirt was way too small for him during the last few days. Many ppl thought that we were crazy; going on trip with my 27 weeks tummy, and more over, it was a light and easy trip (not following tour). I even went to onsen (hot spring), Lewis and his dad were enjoying themselves at the onsen. Since I wasn't ready to boil the little one inside with that hot spring water, I was allowed to soak up to my knee. Then, we had four days frenzy shopping (from morning to late night) at Tokyo. Shop from Takashimaya, Isetan, Roppongi Hills then to Akihabara for electronics goods and anime stuff… crazy…

Nesting instinct kicked in after the Japan trip. I had been online sourcing for idea, review, forum to compare breast pump, sterilizer, baby moisturizer, baby shampoo, diapers, etc… Since we opt for total breast feeding, we were busy asking around about breast pump and sterilizer. After comparing the function and prices, we noticed that Malaysia and Singapore’s distributor are selling the pumps at higher than MSRP. With that, I started my “online shopping” engine. I brought the pump from US directly, including tax and shipping cost, it was still far cheaper than buying in KL/S’pore. I went for the baby shopping daily for about two weeks to look for baby cot, bedding set, and all the baby stuff. I was told not to buy too many baby cloths as baby grows very fast. But, those clothing were so cute, and I couldn’t resist buying them. At the end, we have over supply of baby cloths now. Too late! And somehow, I am still buying when I saw those nice clothing… :-p

My tummy had been growing fast now-a-days. And I started to feel the discomfort due to the heavy weight and baby movement. This little one is real active baby. He has been turning up and down very frequently. Even though Dr said that his position will soon be stabilized. Two weeks ago, when we went for the follow up checking, the baby was in breech position, but he had started to turned head down these few days, causing me lots of discomfort and pain. Back ache, leg cramp, sleepless nights became part of my life now. Just can’t wait to see him face to face. 9 more weeks to go, and he will be saying “hi” to this world. Just be patient and wait…

Sleepless nights...

It has been two days in a row...

I went to bed at 1am... then this little fellow started to his daily kong fu practice... first... Roll over from left to right, then right to left, which can be clearly see from my tummy: suddenly a pop up on the left and then on the right and again on the left... and it continues for about half an hour...

Then, follow by his 无形脚 practice... kick and kick and kick... non stop. from front to back, and keeping me running to toilet... that would normally last for another 30 minutes. And then he goes back to his favorite, rolling over again and again... that was about 3am... and I started to feel hungry (dinner at 7pm, now adi 3am, sure hungry if I m awake...)

Wake up, look for food, and read some books... since it has passed my normal sleeping hour. I was awake. 4.30am, sleepy bugs came to me again, and this little one was tired of his daily 4 hours exercise, he slept finally... and that's the time I went back to my bed... but, he was pressing on my bladder, so, I had been rushing to the toilet every 30 minutes.... that last until 7.30am, when Lewis get ready to go to work... again.. I felt sleepy and sad to say, he was awake and start his kicking lesson again... oh my oh my....

It was fun when I started to feel his movement... but not as fun as he did this two days in a row and causes sleepless nights...

Oh wow. time flies... another month over and went for a monthly check up. We were thinking to find out the gender of this little fellow, but ha! he/she faced downward and showed us the back. Soooo cute!

so, got to wait for another month for the next scanning... this little one is now 4 months... can clearly see the whole body. about 10 cm length. ^.^

Scanning, scanning and more scanning....

Never know that so many scanning needed to be done. scan for diabetes, then scan for down syndrome, then next month got to scan for structural defect... and seriously, I wonder, what are all these for?

hmm.... not so good. From the OGTT result, I had gestation diabetes. and what's that mean? pregnancy diabetes.... so, again, doctor said, no sugar, less rice, less noddle, less bread.... and so on... and come to think about it, am I that serious? normal blood test shows nothing happened. It was the OGTT test that shows this result. I m having PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian syndrome), which lead to a higher chance of getting diabetes type II. hence, a OGTT is needed. and so? my normal diet had already contain very very less sugar. I am one who take coffee without sugar...

I had to go through a blood sugar test every time I visit the doctor. no no no... that's poking stuff is pain! hey! not those normal blood sampling, is those I hate the most! poke at the tip of my poor finger for the blood sample. (that one really hurts!) at first, iI was quite worried bout this diabetes thing, but after few samples taken and each time, the result was good (as my blood sugar was normal!!!) ... so, the conclusion is that, i am just NOT capable of digesting that bottle of sugar solution in that OGTT test. arggg.....

But again, the doctor warned me, watch out for my sugar intake... >.< the worst was not michelin size baby, but worst scenario is that if too much sugar, might cause the sudden death of the baby. scary.... to monitor this blood sugar thing... it is a NIGHT MARE!!!! doctor recommended that I purchase one small monitoring machine, and check my blood sugar (by poking my finger!!!! arggggg!) 7 times a day!!!!!! OMG! poking my own finger seven times a day!?! he must be kidding. (but no wor, he was so serious.... three meal, each time before and after meal, total of 6, and last one before i go to bed... ) crazy ah! And if the sugar level high, I may need insulin injection daily.... gosh!

I am still thinking, should i buy that little monitoring machine? the machine was not expensive, but the poking part was just scary. hey! i am only three months pregnant, do i have to torture myself by poking my own finger 7 times a day for the next 7 months!?! please... no.....

1st scanning...

We went for ultrasound scanning for the 1st time. we were both very curious, wondering what would we see.... Slowly, doctor showed us, "see, that's the baby... hmm... it's quite big already, this pregnancy should be earlier than what you expected, let me calculate the size..." "it's 2cm, already 8 weeks and 4 days..." well, i had irregular period, so our calculation on when was this little fellow formed was incorrect..... then, the doctor pointed to a tiny fast beating 'cell' "that's the heart, look at the heart beat... " SO CUTE, yet so small, look like a single cell to me. After we got home, I kept thinking of the little fast heart beat on the ultrasound screen. It was amazing, and I wonder, since baby is so small at this time, why does it need a heart? yet, lewis laughed at me, saying i should had regretted that i gave up biology in high school...

Toilet Hugging.....

"whoooaaaaaa.... bleeeehhhhhh...." breakfast came out. then lunch. followed by dinner... Gosh! Food poisoning? I had been vomited so many times a day, until lost count... Lewis was quite worried, and ordered ,"do not eat any thing other than in white and transparent!" huh!?! meaning? plane porridge and water only!?! you must be kidding.... and i have followed that instruction for two days, porridge and water. eewwwww! but it did not stop the toilet hugging thing. and i found a few sticky notes on some food, written in mandarin "呕猪禁"... those include my favorite sha-kei-ma... aii...

so, finally, the third day, we decided to see doctor. but before that, we called our personal doctor in M'sia --> Lewis's Sis... and she ask ," fever?" "no", "what did you eat two days ago? anything different from lewis's?" "no", "are you pregnant?" "should be NO gua, i still have my last period"... "drink more water and continue monitor it...." but out of curiosity, we went to purchase the pregnancy test kit, since it doesn't look like a viral infection, and sounds more like pregnant.... and the result came out positive!

ya, the result is positive, but i still have to hug the toilet most of the time. and it become worst. my nose was given a new "ability" --> "smell enhancement!!!" goodness. i can smell something that lewis and swee king can't. i throw out when i clean up doggie's pee and poo, as it was soooo stink. i can't tahan when other ppl was cooking (those oily smell), and worst, i start throwing out due to the body shampoo fragrance. bathing half way, after applying shampoo, i started to vomit becoz of those fragrance. gosh! this is bad.

At the end, doggie must go, either we gave him back to the breeder or sell it. thanks God, sis want it... so he is now happily staying in DJ.... (at least i can still see him when i go back to M'sia) second, purchase new shampoo, facial foam, which is stated "fragrance-free". oh yeah, it ease a lot, but the daily routine on toilet hugging still continue: 4-5 times in the day time, another 4-5 times after dinner... aiii..... tried most of the method, including waist band, replaced coffee with warm juice/honey, drink hot stuffs such as soup, hot ginger tea, hot peppermint tea... but, it doesn't help much. mummy said, it will go off after 3rd month. so, got to wait.... but this is NOT fun at all --> toilet hugging...
